Jefferson Regional Medical Center has 17 operating rooms on the first floor of the hospital. This includes a suite of 2 rooms specializing in open-heart surgery. There are also 3 specialized rooms for gastroenterology, 2 for urology procedures and 1 for pain management or cataract surgery. The operating rooms at Jefferson Regional utilize state of the art equipment that integrate modern forms of technology such as advanced computer assisted minimally invasive systems for general surgery, orthopedics, peripheral vascular, and other specialties. The operating room personnel undergo an extensive orientation that provides thorough experience and training in order to provide the highest level of patient care possible. Many of our staff members belong to specialty teams that are dedicated to one surgical specialty. The JRMC surgical services adheres to National Patient Safety Goals by taking a "Time Out" in the operating room before the surgery starts to verify again the correct patient, procedure and site, such as left or right side. The operating room schedule starts at 7:30 am and can continue around the clock to accommodate emergency cases. The patients may enter the operating room from the Surgery Center, the Short Stay Unit or from their hospital room. The Pittsburgh Anesthesia Association provides anesthesia services. Anesthesia personnel take the patients to the operating room after all the correct paper work and identifications have been completed. When the procedure is completed they take the patient to the Recovery Room.
