Prior to Procedure
  • Certain procedures require pretesting and/or a physical exam. Your doctor will inform you if you need it. Please follow your doctor’s instructions.
  • You may need testing the day of surgery. A nurse from Jefferson Regional Medical Center will contact you in advance to review your medical history, medications and instructions.
  • Please be prepared to discuss all prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs including aspirin, laxatives, vitamins, minerals, and herbals. It is important to discuss with your doctor blood thinning medication, weight loss medication, sexual dysfunction medication and diabetic medication.
Day Before
  • You will be instructed regarding when to stop eating and drinking.
  • Refrain from tobacco and alcohol for 24 hours.
  • Please bath or shower with an anti-microbial soap such as Dial soap.
  • Follow any specific instructions from your physician.
  • If you are scheduled for an outpatient procedure, you must arrange for a responsible adult to take you home and stay with you for 24 hours.
Day of Procedure
  • Report to the Registration desk at the time given to you by the nurse.
  • Remember to bring insurance cards and/or referral forms or papers from your doctor.
  • Your procedure is scheduled for a specific time; however, the schedule is subject to change due to unanticipated events, emergencies or procedures that take longer than expected. Please keep in mind that all schedules are tentative and it is difficult to predict every situation that may change the scheduled timeframe. We will keep you and your family informed of changes and appreciate your patience.
  • Parents are permitted to remain with their children up to the time of the procedure. Children may bring a favorite blanket or toy, pacifier and an empty bottle for use after the procedure.
  • A parent or legal guardian must accompany minors and remain at the hospital throughout the visit. Your child may be unsteady on their feet due to anesthesia, so please plan to supervise all activities for 24 hours.
Discharge

Individual discharge planning should be discussed with your physician and family. Discharge concerns must be resolved before your procedure. For example—transportation and care needed at home.

J Café

J Café is located on the second floor of the hospital and is open from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Hot entrees are available at the following times:

Breakfast 7 to 9:30 a.m.
Lunch 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Dinner 4:15 to 6:30 p.m.

Vending machines are available 24 hours a day at the J Café, the emergency department, and the Short Stay waiting area.

Financial Information
  • Hospital fees include operating and recovery room time and supplies. All physician fees and pretest fees are billed separately.
  • Patients are responsible to pay for any deductible and co-payments at the time of service. We accept most major credit cards in addition to checks and/or cash. A discount is granted if these fees are paid on the date of service.
  • Patients should contact their insurance company prior to their procedure date to insure that all authorizations and referrals have been obtained.
  • You will be responsible for any services not covered by your insurance. Copies of our Patient Payment Alternatives brochure are available in the waiting area.
