Preparing for Your Visit

Your First Visit to the Wound Care Center

When you come into the Wound Care Center at Jefferson Regional, our staff will evaluate your wound and general health with an examination.  They'll also review your medical history with you and a blood test may be required.  After evaluation, our staff will determine if you need additional tests that will give us information about the blood flow in the wound area.

What to bring with you:

  • List of allergies you have
  • List of prescription or over-the-counter medications you are taking including aspirin, vitamins and herbal products.
  • Name and phone number of your primary care doctor(s)
  • Any medical records you have from your primary care doctor(s)
  • Your insurance cards
  • If you have diabetes, bring snacks or medications with you.  Your first visit will take extra time.

Your Healing Program

When your tests are in, we'll put together a treatment program based on your special needs.  This program will include regular visits to the Wound Care Center to provide treatment, evaluate progress and make any changes in treatment plan that may need needed.  You or your caregiver will be given detailed instructions in home care, dressing (bandage) changes and protecting the wound from further injury.

The Wound Care Center will work with your personal doctor.  We'll discuss your treatment program with your doctor and send updates on your progress unless we are instructed otherwise.  You'll continue to see your primary doctor for routine medical care.

Preparing for your Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Treatment

You will receive complete instructions for your treatment when you arrive.  A comfortable cotton garment approved for use in the chamber will be provided to you.  For your safety, the following are not allowed inside the chamber

  • Makeup, nail polish, perfume, or aftershave
  • Hairspray or hair oils
  • Wigs or hairpieces
  • Alcohol-or petroleum-based products
  • Cell phones or pagers
  • Jewelry, titanium frame eyeglasses, keys or other metals
  • Flammable materials or heat-producing items
  • Hearing aids
  • Food, gum, or juice

Over the course of your treatment, you should avoid the use of any tobacco products; these will constrict blood vessels and prolong or even prevent the healing of your wound.

Please let us know if you are ill, and/or are taking any medications prior to your treatment.  Your treatment plan is tailored to your individual needs; inform us any changes in your health or medications so we may update your treatment plan.
