Recovery Room

The Recovery Room, otherwise known as the Post Anesthesia Care Unit or PACU, is located in the surgical area and has staff available 24-hours a day. A team of highly specialized, critical care nurses work closely with the anesthesiologists and surgeons to assure each patient a safe, pain controlled recovery from the anesthesia and procedure. The post-operative patient may remain in the PACU from 30 minutes up to several hours depending on the complexity of the procedure, type of anesthesia administered and pain status.

While our patients are under the effects of anesthesia, our nursing staff maintains their safety in all aspects of care including medication administration by proper identification of the patient, the correct medication to be given and any allergies.

If you are to be admitted, you will remain in the PACU awaiting a bed assignment on the nursing units, all the while receiving the same skilled nursing care from the PACU staff.

The PACU strives to provide confidential care to each patient after surgery. In order to accomplish this task and maintain an infection free environment, the number of visitors allowed in the PACU is limited. Communication with the family is offered through family rounds by designated PACU staff members or via the reception area volunteers.
