Richard F. Collins Jr., MD, Appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Jefferson Regional Medical Center

John J. Dempster, president and CEO of Jefferson Regional Medical Center, announced the appointment of Richard F. Collins Jr., MD, as executive vice president and chief medical officer, with oversight of clinical quality, risk management, case management and medical staff services.
Dr. Collins previously served as vice president and chief medical officer, and vice president of medical affairs at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. He was an orthopedic surgeon for 25 years and was affiliated with Steel Valley Orthopedic Associates. He has served as president of the medical staff and chief of orthopedics, Department of Surgery. He also served on Jefferson Regional Board of Directors, including five years as chairman.
Dr. Collins was affiliated with the former Braddock Medical Center, serving as president of the medical staff, chief of surgery and member of the board of directors and executive committee. He also was an assistant clinical instructor in orthopedics at the University of Pittsburgh.
He graduated from Duke University, Durham, N.C., and George Washington University Medical School, and completed his internship and residency in general surgery at Hartford Hospital, Hartford, Conn. He completed an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Dr. Collins served as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps, stationed at Quantico Naval Hospital, Va. His professional affiliations include the Pennsylvania Medical Society, Allegheny County Medical Society and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
