On behalf of our board of directors, physicians and employees, it's my privilege to introduce you to Jefferson Regional
Medical Center.
Rooted in tradition born south of the City of Pittsburgh, Jefferson is the result of a consolidation between St. Joseph's
Hospital formerly on the South Side of Pittsburgh and Homestead Hospital. As we begin our 33rd year, Jefferson continues
to provide medical excellence to the communities of southwestern Pennsylvania.
I am proud to tell you that almost every acute care room in our 373-bed hospital is a private room with a private
bathroom. Nearly 400 physicians provide our patients with outstanding service in more than 40 specialties. Jefferson
also has a nondenominational chapel and a spiritual care program for our patients and their families.
For 2010, Jefferson Regional is the recipient of the HealthGrades Cardiac Care Excellence Award™, the HealthGrades Cardiac
Surgery Excellence Award™, and the HealthGrades Stroke Care Excellence Award™ (2009 and 2010). HealthGrades rates us one of
the top ten hospitals in Pennsylvania for overall Cardiac Services, Cardiology Services, Cardiac Surgery and the Treatment
of Stroke.
A Center of Excellence at Jefferson is the Heart Institute. Since 2002 we have performed more than 3,300 open-heart
procedures. We operate four cardiac catheterization labs and last year performed more than 3,700 cardiac catheterizations.
There are 38 board certified Cardiologists and 4 board certified Cardiovascular Surgeons on our staff to meet all of our
patients' needs. We have also added Cardiac Ablation and an Arrhythmia Center to the services of the Heart Institute.
The Jefferson Regional Orthopedic Institute has earned the Gold Seal from The Joint Commission for hospital accreditation.
Recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality, the Gold Seal confirms that The Joint Care Center complies with the highest
standards for safety and quality of care for knee and hip replacement surgery.
The Joint Care Center also ranks in the 99th percentile for customer satisfaction in western Pennsylvania.
Last year The Joint Care Center performed over 625 joint replacement surgeries. There are 20 board certified Orthopedic
Surgeons on our staff to meet our patients' needs.
I encourage you to browse our website and our annual report as well as review the many other awards earned by the
physicians, nurses and employees of Jefferson. We have achieved many milestones since opening in 1977.
To meet the needs of the families we serve, we are moving more services into our communities. In addition to our outreach
programs that enable health care professionals to go into assisted living and personal care homes, we have a regular
presence in local neighborhoods to provide free health screenings. Our Diagnostic Imaging Centers at Homestead in the
Waterfront and at the Jefferson Medical Arts Building on Coal Valley Road make it convenient for our patients to access our
services.
We recently opened a Diagnostic Imaging Center in Brentwood Borough, at 3720 Brownsville Road. A fourth Imaging
Center is under construction on our 20-acre campus in Bethel Park. These Centers have state of the art equipment and
technology to allow our radiologists to communicate electronically with the hospital and our physicians' offices.
It is our vision that our communities will have confidence that Jefferson Regional Medical Center will be available for
them in times of need, providing superior care and service, and working to improve the health of the region. We will
strive to exceed your expectations in everything we do.
